While Ogles was initially considered a potential gubernatorial candidate in 2018, he won the general election in Maury County on August 2, 2018, defeating incumbent Charlie Norman, which became his major first electoral victory. 

During his mayoral term, Ogles criticized Tennessee Governor Bill Lee for not limiting local school boards’ ability to enact mask mandates in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, urging the state legislature to pass legislation supporting his proposition.
